Goat Care Information

(This page is a work in progress)

Everything in green and underlined are clickable links

A VERY good resource we rely on is Fias Co or onioncreekranch.com they have more information and knowledge than I can provide all in one place. If you are on Facebook, I encourage you to join Goat emergency group.

New to goats? Please read this article regarding everything you need to know! > Fias Co

This is a list of medicines we keep on hand for emergencies. Please note some medicines are RX (PRESCRIPTION) only and will need a prescription from a Vet. We buy most of our products from Jefferspet.com, valleyvet.com, or Tractor Supply store. You can find most of these at your local feed store, however if you can't, we found these two places to be the best option. This page will have medicines, what they are used for, terminology, and instructions for them.

-Probiotics. Click here  for information. Any rumen probiotic will work, we find the paste works best.

        - Jumpstart

        - Fortified B Complex, with probiotic

-Electrolytes. Click here or here. We use this in time of stress, while giving certain medicines, or weather changes to keep hydrated

-Dewormer. We use Valbazen (Bucks and kids. NEVER give to pregnant does) Cydectin injection given orally. Click here for instructions and types. You can use any of these listed, dosages  are included on this page.

-Coccidia Treatment/Prevention. Click here for information. Click here for purchasing. We have been using Toltazuril as a preventative and treatment. This medicine still works for us here, while some have stated it no longer works for them,. We recommend a fecal to be done after treatment to be sure medicine is working. Please note we also use DI-methox 40% as a prevention or treatment given orally, if needed. This medicine taste horrible so do not be alarmed when they are dramatic. We do not recommend corid unless it is a last resort!

-Power punch Or Nutri-Drench. We use this to help provide nutrients, minerals and energy in times of stress.

-Replamin Plus- We give this monthly as a boost to immune system and to provide minerals. This is a GREAT thing to have on hand

-Fortified Vitamin B-Complex inj - This is used after coccidia treatment, stress, when a goat is off feed. Provides energy and required vitamins during stressful times. A medicine to not be without! Read this for more information on b vitamins

-LA 200 OR Biomycin (stings less when given) - broad spectrum antibiotic

-CD Anti-toxin - Even if your goat is vaccinated against C&D,  your goat can  be affected this life threatening enterotoxemia(over eating disease). You can ONLY order this online. Order ahead of time! Onion Creek has a great information regarding this: Over eating disease aka enterotoxemia.

- Tetanus Anti-toxin - Another life threatening disease. ANTI-TOXIN  should be kept on hand at all times.

- Banamin (RX only) - good for pain relief and fever reducer.

- Dexamethasone (RX only) - used for many things

This list is still being updated. The following pictures with information is a guide and not gospel! Please note that some medical issues could be an emergency, and REQUIRE Veterinary care. These photos do not belong to us and are property of "Emergency Goat Care Team" on Facebook.

Story Tails Farm is not responsible for treatment should you choose to follow these guides and always recommend seeking Veterinary care for proper diagnosing and treatment!
